Overview

The Stray Dogs became a team in 1995 at the very first Eco-Challenge in Utah, when the guys – Dr. Bob Haugh, Mark Macy, and Marshall Ulrich – were all in their forties. Adrian Crane also competed in Eco Utah 1995 race when he was forty. Nancy Bristow competed in her first Eco in British Columbia in 1996 at age thirty-nine.

Guess what? They’re all still at it!  Yes, you did the math right; all of the Stray Dogs are in their sixties! Team Captain Marshall Ulrich (69) and Adrian Crane (65), lead navigator, are the only two people in the world that have competed in all ten Eco-Challenges, including racing together in New England, Borneo, New Zealand, and Fiji. Dr. Bob Haugh (69), secondary navigator, raced with the Dogs in Utah, British Columbia, Australia, and Fiji 2019. Nancy Bristow (63) has competed in six Eco's, including returning to Fiji in 2019 as a Stray Dog.

Original, and always a Stray Dog, Mark Macy (66), competed in eight of nine Eco-Challenge races with Marshall, and raced in Fiji 2019 with his son Travis. That means, all up, the Stray Dogs have competed in 39 Eco-Challenges! Plus dozens of other expedition length adventure races.

​So, while they may be 'gray' dogs, they are out to prove that endurance never sleeps and the quest for adventure never grows old. They relish the idea of continuing to show the world what they can do. They may not be the fastest team but they've got the force of experience and are extremely tough athletes. Most importantly, they always enjoy getting together, doing the best they can, and having the best time they can.

Most recently the Stray Dogs competed in The World’s Toughest Race: Eco-Challenge Fiji in September, 2019. Watch the 10-part series on Amazon Prime Video. The Stray Dogs are one of the featured teams, along with Mace’s Team Endure that included his son, Travis, as the team captain.
 
The Stray Dogs thank producers Mark Burnett and Lisa Hennessy, host Bear Grylls, and the entire organization for bringing back the ultimate, greatest expedition race on the planet: the Eco-Challenge!
